Sunday Mornings
Our WorshipThe number one misunderstanding of what it means to worship is that we go to church to give, not to receive. Haven't you given all week? To your spouse, your children, your job...the list goes on and on! Why not come to church and receive from the one who gives "every good gift and every perfect gift?" (James 1:17) Come to church and receive rest, refreshment, encouragement, forgiveness, grace, teaching from God's Word, and Communion every week.
Does this mean that we do not do anything? Of course not! But everything we do in worship will be in response to what God has done for us through the person and work of Jesus. We will sing because God "exults over you with loud singing." (Zephaniah 3:17) We will confess our sins because he is "faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9) We will raise hands; we will dance--both of which are responses to God's goodness and faithfulness throughout the Hebrew Scriptures, especially the Psalms. We will celebrate Communion together every week because Jesus is offering himself in such a way to spiritually strengthen and nourish his people.
Let Sunday mornings at WSPC be a place of receiving from the One who has all of heaven and earth at His disposal.
What to Expect In Our Worship Service
The West Side is a diverse community so you can expect a diverse group of folks on any given Sunday. As a matter of fact if West Side Presbyterian becomes a homogenous church, then we have failed at serving this community. The dream of WSPC is that if anyone wants to know what the West Side is like, all they have to do is come to West Side Presbyterian to find out.
The last thing you have to worry about at WSPC is how you dress. WSPC is an informal church where we want you to dress in whatever is most comfortable to you.
WSPC loves children. The more in the worship service, the better. A nursery will be provided, but we don't want anyone to feel as though their children are a distraction. Jesus gladly welcomed little children and WSPC will as well.
You can expect the worship service to last no longer than an hour and a half. This may sound long, but folks who worship at WSPC are not passive spectators, but active participants so you are not just sitting still during this time. Each week you can expect corporate prayers, confession of sin, assurance of God's love, lively singing, thoughtful sermons, and the celebration of the Lord's Supper.
If you ever have a question about why we do anything in the service the way we do, please do not hesitate to ask Daniel. He would love to hear any thoughts or concerns that you might have.
